Step 1

Before you can submit your first VAT return online, you will need to ensure your business is eligible. You can check that you meet the criteria with HMRC online. Even if you are currently registered to submit VAT returns online, you will still need to complete the online form to be eligible for the submission of the VAT through a compatible accounting system.

If you have satisfied the criteria for submitting your VAT return online, you can access the HMRC portal to sign up for the pilot. You will need your existing Government Gateway user ID and Password. The user will need to be the Administrator named for the submitting of the VAT return. Additional information will be required such as Company ID and number, as well as the type of business.

An email will be sent to the person that logged in with extra details within 72 hours. Once that has been received you should follow the instructions, enter the appropriate credentials and select the relevant software. You will then be connected to AccountsIQ.
