Triathlon Ireland is the national governing body for triathlon and multisport in Ireland, supporting over 20,000 athletes and sanctioning more than 250 events nationwide each year. The organisation works across youth, age-group, and high-performance levels - partnering with clubs, athletes and organisers to develop the sport across the country. As participation has grown, so too has the complexity of work behind the scenes. A lean finance team is responsible for managing memberships, grants, event income and day-to-day operations - while ensuring accuracy, transparency and control.

The Challenge

As Triathlon Ireland expanded as an organisation, its finance processes struggled to keep pace.

Month-end and management reporting were heavily manual, relying on spreadsheets, multiple data exports, and constant validation. What was once manageable and routine became time-consuming and difficult to track.

“A lot of our month-end management account processes were very manual. Reporting was time-consuming and month-end often became a real bottleneck.”
- Eric Harmon, Finance Controller, Triathlon Ireland

Disconnected systems added further complexity, with data needing to be exported, checked and re-imported - often multiple times.

“The biggest issue was that our systems simply didn’t talk to each other.”

With limited visibility and increasing operational demands, the team needed a more efficient, connected approach to finance.

The Solution

Triathlon Ireland implemented AccountsIQ to modernise and streamline its finance function.

A cloud-based platform provided a single source of truth, bringing financial data together and eliminating the need for manual workarounds. Automation simplified key processes such as reporting and month-end, significantly reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks.

A key part of the transformation was the integration with ExpenseIn. Expense data now flows directly into the finance system with receipts attached - removing duplication and improving accuracy.

The implementation process was smooth, with strong support throughout onboarding, enabling the team to adopt the system quickly and confidently.

The Results

From hours of work to minutes

Tasks that once took hours - or even days - are now completed in minutes, dramatically improving efficiency across the finance function.

Connected systems, seamless workflows

The integration between AccountsIQ and ExpenseIn has eliminated manual data entry and streamlined expense management.

Real-time visibility and control

With all financial data in one place, the team now has instant access to accurate, up-to-date information.

More time for strategic finance

Automation has freed up time, allowing the finance team to focus on higher-value work and decision-making.

“AccountsIQ has really transformed how we manage our finances. What used to take hours of manual work can now be done at the click of a button.”
- Eric Harmon, Finance Controller, Triathlon Ireland

Looking ahead

With a modern, integrated finance system in place, Triathlon Ireland is now better equipped to support its continued growth.

The finance function has evolved from manual and process-heavy to efficient and insight-driven - enabling faster decisions, greater confidence in reporting, and more strategic impact across the organisation.

As Eric concludes:

“There’s never a perfect time to change finance systems, but the efficiencies you gain from AccountsIQ make it completely worthwhile.”
